Future Earth

This work will help Australian researchers, businesses, governments and community organisations draw together fragmented sustainability programs for our continuing prosperity.

Future Earth is a global sustainability initiative launched in 2012 and will integrate over two decades of international cross-sectoral science collaboration. Future Earth Australia is being established to coordinate Australia's contribution to this global initiative. Australia has been traditionally strong in the area of sustainability. To ensure Australia’s continued input and engagement with this international program the Australian Council of Learned Academies (ACOLA) is funding the Australian Academy of Science to conduct an inter-academy project to develop a strategic and business plan for Future Earth Australia.

This work will help Australian researchers, businesses, governments and community organisations draw together fragmented sustainability programs for our continuing prosperity. With a view to co-design the plan and make it relevant across the varied sectors underpinning Future Earth Australia, stakeholders from the business and community sectors have been invited to join Academies representatives on the steering committee. The plan preparation process will be open, transparent and inclusive, with a series of consultation workshops planned for September and October.
