Academy announces new strategic plan for 2015–20

Strategic Plan 2015-2020
Strategic Plan 2015–2020

Four key themes based on building an Australian scientific culture of excellence will underpin and inform the Academy's work over the next five years, after the Academy's Council developed a Strategic Plan for 2015–2020.

Council informed the Fellowship of the outcomes of the review of the previous Strategic Plan at the Annual General Meeting held during ‘Science at the Shine Dome’ in May. The new plan, summarised here, will guide the Academy towards its vision of ‘Excellence in Australian science, a scientifically informed community and a society that is guided by and enjoys the benefits of scientific endeavour’.

The four key themes driving the Academy's work in the next five years are:

  • Excellence in science—championing, celebrating and supporting excellence in Australian science
  • International engagement—promoting Australia's international scientific engagement
  • Scientific literacy—building public awareness and understanding of science
  • Influential voice—providing independent, authoritative and influential scientific advice

To keep you informed about how the Academy is working towards these aims, we have restructured the newsletter to reflect on achievements in each theme. We hope you find this new structure informative and easy to navigate, and we look forward to continuing to work with Australia's science community to celebrate, foster and advocate for outstanding Australian science.
