Top 5 under 40

Applications are now open for outstanding early-career researchers under the age of 40 who are working in Australian universities and research institutions across science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medical research.

‘Top 5 under 40’ is an initiative run by the University of New South Wales (UNSW) and ABC Radio National to discover a new generation of science thinkers and give them a voice.

The 10 applicants with the most innovative ideas will be selected for a two-day workshop at RN in February 2015. Working with RN’s specialist producers and science communicators, they will develop their program ideas and pitch to a panel of judges comprising Professor Robyn Williams FAA, presenter of RN’s The Science Show, ABC Board member Professor Fiona Stanley (University of Western Australia), and Professors Lesley Hughes (Macquarie University) and Merlin Crossley (UNSW). The top five winners will undertake a ten-day media program as ‘Scientists in Residence’ at RN.
