The Academy's Foreign Secretary, Professor Cheryl Praeger, has become the first woman to win the Australian Mathematical Society's prestigious George Szekeres Medal for an outstanding lifetime contribution to mathematics.
Professor Praeger was the second woman in Australia to become a Professor of Mathematics. She has built an exceptional career in group theory and combinatorics, and has spent many years advocating for international collaboration, and working with international leaders in statistics and mathematics.
This year she was elected an Honorary Member of the London Mathematical Society, joining Einstein and Australian Fields Medallist Terry Tao FAA.
