The Academy of Science today formally admitted the President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences as a Corresponding Member.
A pioneer in the field of nanoscience, Professor Chunli Bai was elected last year and formally admitted when he signed the Academy’s Charter Book at a ceremony in Canberra today.
He joins 27 Corresponding Members – all of whom are leading international researchers and science advocates with strong links with Australia.
While in Australia, Professor Bai has also received an honorary doctorate from the Australian National University.
Professor Bai is also President of the World Academy of Sciences and has served as the President of the Chinese Chemical Society.
The Australian Academy of Science has enjoyed a long and fruitful relationship with the Chinese Academy of Sciences. This relationship was formalised with a memorandum of understanding in 1980.
