Two Academy Fellows have been appointed to a technical advisory forum to review and provide advice on Australia’s official temperature data set.
Professor Terry Speed and Emeritus Professor Bob Vincent were among eight leading scientists chosen for the new forum, announced yesterday by the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for the Environment, Bob Baldwin.
According to the Government, the forum will review the methods used by the Bureau of Meterology and will 'provide an independent framework for quality assurance tests and analysis of the Bureau’s data sets for greater transparency'.
The establishment of the technical advisory forum was recommended as part of a review of the Bureau's climate information services in 2011.
