Registrations for the Academy’s Science by Doing program have reached 150,000 across Australia—including 64% of all high school science teachers representing two thirds of all high schools.
Science by Doing is a comprehensive online science program for Years 7 to 10 available free to all Australian students and teachers and supported by award winning professional learning modules and a research based professional learning approach.
Access to the resources for Australian teachers and students is available by registering at sciencebydoing.edu.au.
Science by Doing improves science learning by engaging high school students and supporting teachers. It provides a practical way of implementing the Australian Curriculum: Science, and is managed by the Academy with funding from the Australian Government.
The Science by Doing team recently experienced the David Attenborough virtual reality (VR) films to explore the use of virtual reality as a potential learning resource in the curriculum units. The team has also communicated with Labster, a Danish company, which has developed VR simulations to aid learning.
The technology shows promise, but needs refining to demonstrate the educational effectiveness required to be used in curriculum units.
