Following several successful engagements and a growing relationship, the Australian Council of Learned Academies (ACOLA) and the Aboriginal Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS) have announced they have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding. This formal collaboration will help improve the recognition and inclusion of Indigenous knowledge and perspectives into research-based advice, and ultimately inform better Australian policy considerations.

The 2020 Dorothy Hill Medal and the 2021 Jaeger Medal recipients have been honoured at Government House in Hobart, while the 2021 Hannan Medal recipient was honoured at Government House in Adelaide.

Academy opportunities Mike Smith Student Prize for History of Australian Science or Australian Environmental History

The $3000 prize will be awarded for an essay based on original unpublished research undertaken whilst enrolled as a student (postgraduate or undergraduate) at any tertiary educational institution in the world.

Two early-career researchers have each been awarded a 2022 Max Day Environmental Science Fellowship for their highly interdisciplinary research work to protect the environment. Ms Bridget Campbell is a PhD candidate at Macquarie University and Dr Brock Bergseth is a research fellow at James Cook University.
