Science plays a vital role in nearly every aspect of our lives, yet across the community and in government, misunderstandings still flourish and support for science is highly variable. This is despite a wealth of evidence about the best ways to engage the public, politicians and policymakers. This one-day master class with leaders in the field will help you underpin your work with evidence, apply best practice, and bridge the gap between the theory and practice of science communication and policy-making.

Four executive committee positions are open for nomination at Science & Technology Australia. The available positions are:

The United Nations has declared 2015 the International Year of Light. The year will celebrate light in all its forms and applications, from synchrotron light to sunlight, from photosynthesis to the stars, and from Instagram to smart-lighting. Organisations across Australia are invited to use this opportunity to promote how they use light in science, art, culture, the built environment and education.

The new inspiring women industry internships—supported by veski and the Office of the Lead Scientist for Victoria—aim to support, advance and inform Victorian women through partnerships with government, industry and academia. The industry internships will be delivered by AMSI Intern, an innovative national program working across industry, building links between universities and organisations.

Support is now available for EMCRs from the Asia–Pacific region to attend the 7th South China Sea Tsunami Workshop.

The Beijing Centre for Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (BICTAM) is providing support to attend the workshop which will bring together coastal physical oceanographers, geophysicists and engineers to discuss tsunami hazard mitigation in the South China Region.

The veski innovation fellowships are open to Australian and non-Australian researchers and scientists in the fields of science and innovative technology. Successful individuals may receive up to A$50,000 per annum for a maximum of three years to undertake their research in Victoria.
