COVIDSafe: Four weeks in

Launched on ANZAC Day weekend, the COVIDSafe app has been the source of much controversy. But now that time and reality has replaced hyperbole and speculation, it’s possible to make an informed assessment of where we are, and where we need to go from here.

Join a panel of experts from epidemiology, law, philosophy, and cybersecurity to discuss the COVIDSafe app, and the broader role of technology in the response to COVID-19. They will discuss the evidence base for app-enhanced contact tracing, as well as the risks posed by these apps to privacy and other values, and how those risks can been mitigated—operationally, legally, and technologically. They will also consider what steps to take next, and, perhaps most importantly, how we should decide.

Panel: Katharine Kemp (UNSW)Dr Meru Sheel (ANU)Associate Professor Vanessa Teague (Thinking Cybersecurity & ANU)James Wood (UNSW)

Chair: Seth Lazar (HMI)

This is an online event via Zoom (organised by ANU).
