Day 1 | Tuesday 22 May

Annual Symposium—Predict, Respond, Recover: science and natural disasters

The 2018 Symposium focuses on the role science plays in predicting, mitigating, responding to and recovering from natural hazards and weather events. The Symposium aims to cover a range of types of significant weather events and perspectives from diverse scientific disciplines.

New Fellows admissions

Our newest Academy Fellows are formally admitted into the Australian Academy of Science upon the signing of the Charter.

Following their induction this will be followed with a post celebratory cocktail reception.

Day 2 | Wednesday 23 May

New Fellows seminar and Gala Dinner

During Science at the Shine Dome, a small number of outstanding scientists are admitted to the Academy, following a lengthy and exacting election process. These new Fellows are further put to the test by having to communicate their life’s work in just 10 minutes. All talks are pitched at a general science audience.

Day 3 | Thursday 24 May

Awards, early- and mid-career researcher workshops, AGM (closed session) 

Each year about 15 researchers receive highly sought-after honours for outstanding achievements in early- and mid-career research or across a lifetime of work. The awardees will be presented with their awards and recognised for their work. 

The awards ceremony will be followed by the Fellows’ AGM, and workshops for early- and mid-career researchers.
