The Australian Science Media Centre (AusSMC) has recently created Scimex, a new portal breaking science news for Australia and New Zealand. Fellows who are willing to engage with the media can register as an expert on Scimex.

In May 2016, the Academy will introduce a new Annual Giving Program to support its work in science and mathematics education, celebrating excellence in science, nurturing young talent, improving gender equity and ensuring that evidence underpins public policy. The Academy received many enquiries at the end of last financial year about making regular donations—the new Annual Giving Program will provide the opportunity to donate at tax time.

The Australian Academy of Science invites applications from Australian researchers for the APEC Science Prize for Innovation, Research and Education (ASPIRE) for 2015.

Applications will be assessed on the following criteria:

The Australian Nanotechnology Network (ANN) will be holding a Nanotechnology Entrepreneurship Workshop for Early Career Researchers and PhD students at Griffith University, Gold Coast Campus on June 10-11 2015. The workshop will provide a forum for early career researchers and postgraduate students working on nanotechnology research to interact with industry leaders and learn about how to commercialise nanotechnology. Industry leaders will share experiences in commercialising technologies.

Each year the Australian Academy of Science recognises excellence in science across a variety of fields. Many of these honorific awards are targeted to early- and mid-career researchers.

The 4th Annual NHMRC Symposium on Research Translation will be held on 27-28th October 2015 in Sydney. The theme for this year is ‘Policy and research: Working together to improve the health of Australians’. This year the symposium is being held in collaboration with the Centre for Informing Policy in Health with Evidence from Research (CIPHER), located at the Sax Institute, Sydney.

Every year, Australia's foremost scientists gather at Science at the Shine Dome. High achievers are admitted to the Fellowship of the Australian Academy of Science, prestigious awards are presented, and a symposium is held on an issue of national importance. The 2015 theme is 'Minerals to medicines: 100 years of X-ray crystallography'. X-ray crystallography has come a long way since Adelaide-born Nobel Laureate Lawrence Bragg pioneered the field 100 years ago.

The National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) has recently released a Consultation Paper on Current and Emerging Issues for NHMRC Fellowship Schemes. The NHMRC invites you to have your say about the future of health and medical research fellowship funding. Submissions must be made via the online submission form that addresses the questions raised in the Consultation Paper.
